Figure Skater:
On Friday, the class was told to draw a picture for the theme "Olympics". I chose to draw a skater for the figure skating sport in the Olympics. The reason I had chosen a figure skater was because of the beautiful lines they create as the dance on ice and how easy they make it look. I learned many things from drawing this figure skater. One thing I learned was that to create the lines of the skater I needed the form of her legs to be the same proportion. I also learned that to make her hair look real, I needed to add value to it.
Ballet on The Bridge:
For my class's first charcoal drawing, I decided to draw my friend on the bridge at the Dominican Republic. When I first saw the original photo, I thought it would definitely be too hard to draw it. I was right; the drawing needed to be drafted two times before I did the final drawing. It took a lot of time and I learned that you needed to be very patient. I drew this piece with charcoal and it was very hard not to mess up or smudge the page on accident. I learned how to blend and to shadow while drawing my friend on the bridge. I blended the edges of the bridge, so it would look as if it was going off into the distance. Also, I did a little shadow around the dancer's body to accentuate the her in the drawing.
The Fairly Odd Parents:
At the start of the semester, our first assignment was to draw a childhood cartoon with the characters having different characteristics. For example, Tom and Jerry- Tom the cat would be small and Jerry the mouse would be big. I chose to do the Fairly Odd Parents, by making Timmy Turner, the little boy, the fairy and the Fairly Odd Parents would be humans. In this drawing, I learned about layering while I was coloring with the color pencils. I wanted the colors to stick out more in the drawing.
The Bridge:
In this tape mural project, I learned how to work with groups to make the difficult task easy. The difficult task was making the arches and it took time to make the lines of the bridge straight.
Night Skies:
For our paintings, my class used the acrylic paint. I decided to look up pictures of mountains with pretty skies for the background. I combined to photos, and changed the sky and mountains. It was difficult to get the right shades of purple and orange. I needed to make sure that I didn't mix the purple and orange together, because I would get an orange-green color. I wanted to have good contrast for the ground with the light brown and dark brown combined.
Be Green:
This picture is a drawing I did for our Optical Illusion category in art. In this drawing I made the light bulb blend in with the tree to make an optical illusion. For this drawing I was expressing that we use so much electricity and power that we don't understand how it is not only affecting us, but affecting our world. My drawing was made with oil pastels and color pencils.
Save the Bees:
For this art piece my class and I did cardboard sculptures. I decided to make a beehive, because bees should be protected and loved so they won't become endangered. When I made the beehive I tried to use the contrast with the bumpy brown part of the cardboard and the soft yellow painted part of the cardboard to make the honeycombs.
The Dance Studio:
For this drawing, I learned that my proportions have to match perfectly. I also learned that my lines should be measured the exact length, so the proportions for the window and barres are aligned correctly.
My Pyramid:
When we first started the clay section of art we were given a quiz. On the quiz there were questions such as, what are the four stages of clay. At the time of the quiz I did not know the four stages of clay. Now that I know, I had learned that the four stages of clay are slip, plastic, leather hard, and bone dry. Also, throughout this section I had learned the difficulties of using and sculpting clay. My difficulty was waiting too long to attach the side of my pyramid, therefore I had to restart my project.
Artists Learn:
For the Artists Learn Project I decided to continue to work with clay. I made an elephant pot out of brown clay, and I decided to use acrylic paint rather than glaze. As I worked on this project I learned about how to use glaze. When you use glaze you are to paint the object with the color of your choice three times. You shouldn't paint glaze on the bottom of your object, for it can get stuck to the kiln when it's fired again. I also learned that if you do not score and slip enough, the parts you attach to your clay piece may break off while in the kiln.
Pointillism:
The next art project we did was pointillism. For my pointillism project I decided to draw mushrooms and butterfly. As I was doing my pointillism project I learned that putting dots on a page need focus and concentration. Also, the perspective of the drawing and the size of how big the dots are control how one may see the art piece. During this pointillism project I had also learned that detail is very important when drawing dots on a paper.
